Har du läst Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand’s Ideas Can End Big Government (2012) av Yaron Brook och Don Watkins? Inte? Bra! Då har du verkligen något att se fram emot.

Detta är en perfekt bok för den som söker efter ett logiskt och moraliskt konsekvent försvar för kapitalismen.

Jag vill idag ge boken lite uppmärksamhet för jag är rädd för att den är bortglömd och—inte minst bland objektivister—en löjligt underskattad bok.

Detta är en sådan bok som den fria marknadens vänner med fördel kan läsa om och om igen. Dels för att hålla idéerna färska i sinnet; dels för att hålla kämparglöden levande!

Tyvärr har jag inte tid att skriva en recension av boken. Så istället tänker jag låta boken få tala för sig själv med tre av mina (hundratals) favoritpassager:

Why, then, is self-sacrifice held in such esteem by most Americans? In significant part because they don’t have a clear concept of “sacrifice” or of “selfish.” They treat any noble or benevolent gesture as a sacrifice, and they equate selfishness with violating people’s rights or never helping anyone for any reason. In other words, the reason we laud self-sacrifice and revile selfishness is not because we’ve heard some great argument in favor of those views but because sacrifice has been whitewashed and selfishness has been turned into a straw man. Once those concepts are clearly defined, any pretense that altruistic self-sacrifice is noble vanishes.

The attack on selfishness is an attack on the pursuit of happiness, and it is over the pursuit of happiness that the battle for America’s future will be waged. We need to fight for economic freedom not on the grounds that it promotes GDP, or the “public interest,” or any other collectivist ideal. We need to fight for it on the grounds that your life belongs to you: Each of us has an inalienable right to act on our own judgment, to produce and trade free from force, for the sole purpose of making our own lives as successful and joyous as they can possibly be. We have to be unequivocal in rejecting the notion that we are a means to the ends of others—or that others are a means to our ends.

This is the Free Market Revolution. It is a revolution in the way we think about capitalism. It involves completely reconceiving what a free market is, how people function and succeed in one, and how to morally evaluate the capitalist way of life. It’s a revolution in the way we think about self-interest, the profit motive, the profit system.
