Det råder nu krig mellan Libanon, palestinierna och Israel. Iran hotar att förklara krig mot Israel om de angriper Syrien. Det talas om storkrig. Våra intellektuella ser mycket mörkt på situationen, detta trots att de har fått precis vad de ville.

Våra intellektuella förespråkar pacifism och så kallade rättvisa krig. De förespråkar förhandlingar och kompromisser med terrorister. De fördömer ständigt Israel för att de inte förhandlar tillräckligt eller för att de inte är tillräckligt pacifistiska eller för att de inte för tillräckligt ”rättvisa” krig. Ändå är dagens situation verket av just pacifism, teorin om rättvist krig, ständiga förhandlingar och kompromisser med terrorister.

Israel förhandlade år 2000 med palestiniernas ledare Yassir Arafat och erbjöd dem 96% av allt land de begärde. Allt Israel begärde i utbyte var fred. Vad fick de? En andra intifada, en våg av terrorism, som har kostat hundratals israeliska liv.

När Israel till slut svarade på palestiniernas terrorism, år 2002, då gjorde de ofta det på ett enligt våra intellektuella ”rättvist” sätt. De gick in och utsatte sina soldater för helt onödiga risker. Istället för att låta deras flygvapen jämna terrornästen som Jenin med marken, gick de med på att offra ett tjugotal av sina egna soldater. Varför? Jo, för att skona civila i området. Men en överväldigande majoritet av palestinierna är inte oskyldiga. De stöder som både opinionsundersökningar och deras handlande visar terroristernas sak både materiellt och moraliskt.

Förra året gav Israel i utbyte mot ingenting bort hela Gaza till palestinierna. Vad fick de? En seger för Hamas eftersom de, palestinierna, såg detta som en seger för deras terrorism. Raketer har sedan dess regnat över Israel från Gaza, attacker som Israel inte har svarat på.

Sedan kidnappade palestinierna och Hizbollah tre israeliska soldater, vilket bröt ut dagens situation. Varför? Därför att Israel i åratal har gått med på att lämna ut terrorister för att få hem sina kidnappade soldater. 1985 lämnade Israel ut 1150 libanesiska och palestinska terrorister, för att få hem 3 israeliska soldater. 2004 lämnade Israel ut 436 terrorister för att få hem 3 israeliska soldater.

När man förhandlar med terrorister då ger man dem den principiella överhanden. Man säger i princip till dem att de kan komma undan med deras terrorism. Men inte bara det. Man säger även till dem att de faktiskt har rätt. Så förhandlingar och eftergifter resulterar endast i att man uppmuntrar terroristerna till att slakta fler oskyldiga och att komma med fler krav. Genom att skona de ”oskyldiga” civila ser man till att det moraliska och materiella stödet från allmänheten för kriget mot Israel fortsätter att vara starkt. Historien är fylld av exempel som uteslutande visar hur pacifism och eftergifter av den här sorten endast stärker och uppmuntrar den aggressiva parten i en konflikt.

Men de intellektuella ignorerar och evaderar allt detta och mycket mer därtill. Sedan fortsätter de med att fördöma Israel för att de inte är tillräckligt hängivna till deras irrationella idéer. Sist världen stod på randen till ett världskrig, trodde Storbritanniens premiärminister Neville Chamberlain att han hade skapat ”fred i vår tid” genom att förhandla och ge efter för Hitler. Så borde inte de intellektuella, i ljuset av detta, granska sina egna idéer och premisser, innan de, återigen, kräver att Israel ska förhandla fram en ”fred i vår tid”?

Politicians and commentators from both parties are decrying our ”addiction to oil.” They exhort us to embrace costly programs to reduce our consumption of oil as quickly as possible. The primary rationale for this is national security. Our oil consumption is dangerous because, in the words of a New York Times editorial, ”Oil profits that flow to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries finance . . . terrorist acts.” With the same justification, President Bush has called for cutting ”more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025 . . . and mak[ing] our dependence on Middle Eastern oil a thing of the past.”

But Americans are not ”addicted” to oil. ”Addiction” implies an intense desire for something harmful. But we do not desire oil irrationally; we consume it because it is a wonderful, life-sustaining product. Oil is unmatched as an efficient, safe source of portable energy. It enables us to affordably ride, drive, or fly anywhere we wish, and fuels a transportation industry that enables us to trade anything with anyone from anywhere around the world. We are not addicted to oil any more than we are addicted to the myriad values it makes possible, like fresh food, imported electronics, going to work, or visiting loved ones.

The problem we face today is not our love of oil, but oil-rich dictatorships like Iran and Saudi Arabia–who use ill-gotten profits to spread totalitarian Islamic ideology around the world and terrorize us with their minions. The solution is not to punish ourselves by renouncing oil–but to punish our enemies until they renounce their aggression.

As the most powerful nation on earth, the United States has many options at its disposal.

PowerLineBlog uppmärksammade igår ett nyligen översatt dokument från Irak. Dokumentet som är från hösten 1999 säger:

Letter [TC: Secret Foreign Classification] sent by the Director of the Criminal Department, Na`man `Ali Muhammad, to the Director of the Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) [TC: no name] dated 04 September 1999.

Mr. Muhammad indicated that the International Inspection Committee would be inspecting the Al-Rashad location, among other locations, looking for non-conventional weapons and other chemical agents. He added that the following procedures were implemented on the fifth month of this year [TC: May 1999] in order to prevent disclosure of the locations:
1- Relocate all IIS documents
2- Relocate all IIS chemical materials and equipment
3- Designate a group of employees from the Ministry of Health to replace the IIS employees
4- Relocate some of the officers and employees, whose job descriptions are not compatible with the Ministry of Health to Al-Rashidiah, and implement other appropriate concealment procedures. [TC: no further information].

He continues to state that present situation of the Directorate could be extended for an unspecified period of time. This situation could frequently reoccur, which has a direct negative impact on the performance and duties of the Directorate, with regards to providing essential levels of security. Consequently, the location of the site could be discovered. In addition the Ministry of Health may not be able to afford releasing its employees for a long period of time. Also, the presence of the Ministry of Health employees, and their integration with our employees, is a security breach. The close location of the directorate to other public locations, such as Al-Thaurah and Hay Al-Sinak, makes it a non-secure location. He added that the location is within the range of the enemy’s coordinates, and that special attention should be given to the collaborators who are present within these areas. The following alternate locations were suggested:

1- The Technical Research Center located on Palestine Street (previous Olympic Committee), since part of its Criminology Research Department was transferred to the Criminology Department.
2- Scientific Research Center, since it contains some laboratories that can be used for the work of the Criminology Department.

This seems pretty definitive. The subject is how to evade the search for ”non-conventional weapons and other chemical agents.” The evasion includes moving Iraqi Intelligence documents, and substituting Department of Health employees for intelligence agents. Further, the Intelligence Service’s ”chemical materials and equipment” were relocated. This doesn’t sound like they were just moving old munitions left over from the 1980s from place to place.

As much as one document can prove anything, this seems to demonstrate that Iraq was secretly producing and hiding chemical weapons as of September 1999.

Statsminister Göran Persson kommenterade på söndagen läget i Mellanöstern.

– Israel har begått en handling som inte går att försvara, sade han.

– Den är oproportionerlig i relation till den åtgärd som palestinierna stod för. Att gå in och ta delar av en regering och parlamentsledamöter är inte förenligt med folkrätten.

Statsministern säger att det är svårt att begripa hur israelerna har resonerat.

Handlingen som Israel har begått är att de har försökt på ett omoraliskt återhållsamt sätt försvara sig. Deras regering har försökt göra det enda en regering bör göra: skydda individens rättigheter. Detta är en handling som enligt Göran Persson inte går att försvara. Varför? Det är en kränkning av ”folkrätten”. Vad betyder ”folkrätten”? Det betyder terroristers påstådda ”rätt” att slakta oskyldiga israeler och diktatorers påstådda ”rätt” att förtrycka sitt folk.

Varför är Israels reaktion ”oproportionelig”? Därför att Isarel till skillnad från Göran Persson, får man förmoda, inte är villiga att låta en av sina egna oskyldiga medborgare bli kidnappade och sedan slaktade bara för att skona ett 60-tal medlemmar av en terroristregering. Persson anser tydligen att Israel måste acceptera systematiska kränkningar av individens rättigheter, bara för att värna om palestiniernas ”folkrättsligt” sanktionerade ”rätt” att systematiskt kränka individens rättigheter. Och detta är, får man vidare förmoda, ett resonemang som däremot är lätt att begripa?

Först kommer de med en artikel som säger: ”De tre palestinska väpnade grupper som tillfångatagit en israelisk soldat meddelade på måndagsmorgonen i ”militärkommuniké nr 3″ att Israel har ett dygn på sig för att svara på erbjudandet om att få honom fri mot att palestinier i israeliska fängelser också befrias. Israel avvisar förslaget.” Detta antyder ju att det är palestinierna som är ”flexibla”, ”villiga att förhandla”, att de vill ha en ”fredlig lösning”, etc.

Strax under är det en artikel som säger: ”Snart börjar barnen dö på sjukhuset Al Nassr i Gaza. Israelernas bombning av ett kraftverk har lett till akut elbrist. De första som drabbas är nyfödda i kuvöser. – Vi har bara bränsle till reservgeneratorerna för ytterligare fem dagar, säger läkaren Sobhi Sawafery.” Orsaken är naturligtvis att framställa Israel som skurken i dramat och hålla dem ansvariga för att oskyldiga barn dör på det här sjukhuset.

Sedan låter de tre ”experter” få uttala sig om den senaste tidens utveckling (som bör ju inleddes när palestinierna som vanligt initierade bruket av våld). I ingressen kan man läsa: ”På palestinska sjukhus dör patienter av brist på el och vatten. Skolor i Gaza har träffats av israeliska bomber. FN varnar för en humanitär kris.” Redan här är det uppenbart vem som är ”skurken”: Israel.

Vad säger då våra ”experter”? Kerstin Grebäck, ordförande för biståndsorganisationen Kvinna till kvinna säger: ”Vad krävs för att få ett slut på konflikten? Israel måste dra sig undan, konflikten kan inte lösas militärt.” Israel måste dra sig undan? Israel gav palestinierna Gaza i utbyte mot ingenting. Resulterade det i att palestinierna blev mer civiliserade? Nej.

Terroristernas ständiga försvarare, Jan Hjärpe, säger: ”Vad betyder det här på sikt för det palestinska folket? Det kommer att ge en väldigt stark reaktion i hela världen och sätter Israel vid vägs ände. Enda möjligheten är en ordentlig fredsförhandling.” Och: ”Vad krävs för att få ett slut på konflikten? Det är väldigt svårt, men seriösa förhandlingar krävs. Det går inte an att fortsätta kränka folket på det här sättet.” Inte ett ljud om palestiniernas ständiga kränkningar av israelernas rättigheter.

Den tredje experten, Kerstin Furubrant, redaktör på Utrikespolitiska institutet säger: ”Vad betyder det här på sikt för det palestinska folket? Andra palestinier kommer förstås att agera solidariskt med dem i Gaza. Men jag tror inte att man kan låta den här humanitära krisen blomma upp, Israel kan inte heller låta det hända.” Du tror inte att Israel kommer låta det hända? OK, men varför frågar du inte dig själv varför palestinierna själva ”lät” det hända genom att rösta fram ett mördarband till regering, eller genom att aktivt stöda slaktandet av oskyldiga människor, eller genom att mörda varandra istället för att leva tillsammans som civiliserade människor?

Observera att ingen har än så länge sagt ett ord om att denna konflikt, från början till slut, är palestiniernas ansvar. Detta är inte minst fallet i den nuvarande situationen som ju är en följd av att palestinier i månader har skjutit raketer mot Israel, attacker som Israel inte har svarat på, och att de själva aktivt kidnappade en israelisk soldat. Allt ansvar läggs istället på den oskyldiga parten i sammanhanget, Israel, och det man kräver av dem är att de ger upp sin rätt att existera och vägrar vidta några som helst åtgärder för att försvara sig eller skydda sina egna medborgare.

Observera att det inte heller sägs ett ljud om vad sådana här helt omotiverade och orättvisa eftergifter från Israels del har för långsiktiga effekter. På lång sikt har det naturligtvis bara en effekt: man bjuder in fler terrorattacker, precis som alla fredsförhandlingar och eftergifter endast har gett Israel fler attacker som ”belöning”. Ändå är det just fler fredsförhandlingar och eftergifter som dessa ”experter” föreslår som ”lösningen”. Har de ingenting lärt sig av historien? Diplomati och förhandlingar med terrorister gynnar endast och uteslutande terroristerna.

Men de långsiktiga konsekvenserna för Israel är det ingen ”expert” som bryr sig om. Ja, dessa är i sanning experter – experter på att försvara terroristernas slaktande av oskyldiga israeler och palestiniernas oförsvarabara angreppskrig mot Israel.

Detta är ett extremt tydligt exempel på hur fullständigt pervers vinklingen av konflikten mellan Israel och arabvärlden är. Det kan inte bli mycket tydligare än så här. Är det konstigt att många har en helt skev uppfattning om vem det är som har fel och vem det är som har rätt i denna konflikt? Nej.

Jag lovade mig själv att jag inte skulle ta upp detta ämne igen. Men nu kan jag inte låta bli. Torsdagen den 22 juni 2006 kom det fram att USA har funnit 500 WMD:s i Irak sedan maj 2004. Man uppskattar att det finns fler kvar där. USA:s mainstreammedier har tonat ned det hela. I Sverige har man inte ens tagit upp det. Varför? Det är sant, som kritikerna till fyndet säger, att dessa är gamla vapen från före 1991. Men vad gör det för skillnad om de efter alla dessa år fortfarande är farliga och dödliga?

WASHINGTON — The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers said Wednesday.

”We have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons,” Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., said in a quickly called press conference late Wednesday afternoon.

Reading from a declassified portion of a report by the National Ground Intelligence Center, a Defense Department intelligence unit, Santorum said: ”Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.”

He added that the report warns about the hazards that the chemical weapons could still pose to coalition troops in Iraq.

”The purity of the agents inside the munitions depends on many factors, including the manufacturing process, potential additives and environmental storage conditions. While agents degrade over time, chemical warfare agents remain hazardous and potentially lethal,” Santorum read from the document.

”This says weapons have been discovered, more weapons exist and they state that Iraq was not a WMD-free zone, that there are continuing threats from the materials that are or may still be in Iraq,” said Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Mich., chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

The weapons are thought to be manufactured before 1991 so they would not be proof of an ongoing WMD program in the 1990s. But they do show that Saddam Hussein was lying when he said all weapons had been destroyed, and it shows that years of on-again, off-again weapons inspections did not uncover these munitions.

Do the 20-year-old Iraqi chemical munitions found by U.S. and coalition forces support the prewar contention that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, and justify the invasion of Iraq?

That question divided Republicans and Democrats again this week, this time at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee on the estimated 500 rockets and artillery shells containing degraded mustard gas or sarin nerve agent.

Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) contended that an April report by the U.S. Army’s National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) is clear evidence of Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.

”Some may want to play down the significance of this report or even deny that WMD have been found in Iraq,” Hunter said at Thursday’s hearing, using the abbreviation for weapons of mass destruction.

Citing the United Nations resolutions that called for destruction of all of Hussein’s banned weapons, Hunter added that ”the verified existence of such chemical weapons” proves they were not destroyed and ”in part because of such violations, we voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq.”

The classified overview of chemical munitions says that U.S. forces have found about 500 shells, canisters or other munitions containing the chemical weapons. Lt. Gen. Michael D. Maples, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, told the committee the shells were produced in the 1980s for the Iran-Iraq war but were not used.

In his Jan. 28, 2003, State of the Union address, President Bush said that U.S. intelligence indicated ”Saddam Hussein had upwards of 30,000 munitions capable of delivering chemical agents. Inspectors recently turned up 16 of them — despite Iraq’s recent declaration denying their existence. Saddam Hussein has not accounted for the remaining 29,984 of these prohibited munitions. He’s given no evidence that he has destroyed them.”

Maples was caught in the verbal crossfire between Republicans and Democrats but proved adept at avoiding answers that aided either side.

Rep. Susan Davis (D-Calif.) asked whether the munitions could be characterized as ”the Golden Oldies of weapons of mass destruction.” Maples said he was ”not sure what Golden Oldies are” but added that the munitions were ”dangerous. . . . even in a degraded mode, they will produce hazardous and potentially lethal effects and that we would categorize them as weapons of mass destruction.”

Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.), who believes the shells represent weapons of mass destruction, asked: ”If you took that material and got it out of the country and took it to a metropolitan area, what would be the impact?”
Maples replied, ”I think conceivably it would have a very large impact.”
That caused Rep. Terry Everett (R-Ala.) to ask, ”If some bad guys got this stuff and sneaked it into New York City and put it [into] the subways there, would it kill people?” Taken aback slightly, Maples responded, ”Potentially . . . yes, sir, it would.”

The head of the House intelligence panel is calling the national intelligence director to task for misrepresenting the discovery of chemical munitions in Iraq. Why is the intelligence establishment playing games?

A strongly worded letter sent last week by Rep. Peter Hoekstra, R-Mich., complained to John Negroponte about a June 21 press briefing that Negroponte’s office organized and in which unidentified intelligence officials made ”inaccurate, incomplete and occasionally misleading comments” to reporters.

Reporters were told that CIA weapons inspectors in Iraq weren’t interested in weapons of mass destruction produced before the 1991 Gulf War. ”This assertion is demonstrably false,” Hoekstra wrote, and he quoted from the Transmittal Message to the Iraq Survey Group (ISG) report.

The report said inspectors were looking ”to provide facts and meaning concerning the regime’s experience with WMD” and ”a dynamic analysis rather than simple static accounting of the debris found following Operation Iraqi Freedom.”

At a House Armed Services Committee hearing Thursday, the Defense Intelligence Agency head, Lt. Gen. Michael Maples, said that although the Iraqi chemical weapons were in degraded condition, they were still ”a danger in Iraq for those who could come in contact with them.” Use ”outside of Iraq could not be ruled out,” he added.

The NGIC commander, Col. John Chiu, testified that ”regardless of the purity . . . any remaining agent is toxic, with potential to be lethal.”

Och allt detta bör naturligtvis förstås ur ett större sammanhang:

The ISG’s 2004 Duelfer Report documented Saddam’s ability and willingness to use chemical weapons again. Among the findings:

• Saddam’s government intended to resume all banned weapons programs once sanctions against Iraq were lifted.

• Saddam considered chemical warfare ”a proven weapon against an enemy’s superior numerical strength, a weapon that had saved the nation at least once already — during the Iran-Iraq War — and . . . deterred the coalition in 1991 from advancing to Baghdad.”

• The U.N.’s oil-for-food program ”sparked a flow of illicitly diverted funds that could be applied to . . . Iraq’s chemical industry.”

• ”The way Iraq organized its chemical industry after the mid-1990s allowed it to conserve the knowledge base needed to restart a CW (chemical weapons) program.”

• Hardware found by the ISG ”suggests that Iraq may have prototyped experimental CW rounds.”

• The head of the Iraqi paramilitary force tried to obtain chemical weapons for use during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

• The Iraqi Intelligence Service (IIS) from 1991 to 2003 maintained ”a set of undeclared covert laboratories to research and test various chemicals and poisons, primarily for intelligence operations.” Those labs could have provided an ideal, compartmented platform from which to continue R&D or small CW production.

• Saddam’s IIS program used human subjects for testing.

The Bush administration did not lie about WMD so we could go to war. In liberating Iraq, the U.S. ousted a dictator who already committed genocide against fellow Muslims using chemical weapons.

För några dagar sedan attackerade Göran Hägglund Sveriges VD:ar för deras höga bonusar och löner. Det var en patetisk och vidrig attack som säkerligen motiverades av inget annat än ren och skär populism, dvs strävan efter röster, dvs maktlusta. Jag själv funderade länge på att kommentera detta. Men nu behöver jag inte för Stefan Karlsson har gjort det på ett alldeles utmärkt sätt:

Recently, Göran Hägglund, the leader of the Swedish Christian Democrats attacked Swedish CEO:s for receiving excessive pay. Most likely this was a case of political pandering to culturally conservative but economically leftist Social Democratic voters who like the Christian Democrat’s negative attitudes towards homosexuals and their more tolerant view of mothers who want to take care of their own children but who dislike their marginally more free market views of economics. By indulging in anti-CEO rhetoric, Hägglund clearly hopes to attract some of these voters.

But apart from its vote-winning appeal, does his attacks make any sense? Quick answer: no.

PÅ DN DEBATT på fredagen presenterar samhällsbyggnadsminister Mona Sahlin regeringens syn på hur det skulle vara möjligt att komma till rätta med problemen på den svenska elmarknaden.

Efter avregleringen 1996 har elmarknaden, enligt Mona Sahlin, i det närmaste utvecklats till ett oligopol där Sydkraft, Vattenfall och Fortum dominerar. Något som lett till allt dyrare elräkningar och nätavgifter.

– Det är regeringen själv som saboterat den avreglerade marknaden. Att det ser ut som det gör beror inte på avregleringen i sig, utan på den gröna skatteväxlingen och på att man höjt beskattningen på el våldsamt mycket, säger Mikael Odenberg, moderaternas gruppledare.

Mats Odell, kristdemokraternas ekonomisk-politiska talesman, är inne på samma linje.

– Utspelet präglas av svårartat hyckleri. Man vill ha lägre elpriser, men samtidigt är skatten på el uppe i ungefär femtio procent. Dessutom är den dubbelbeskattad i och med att man lägger på moms också, säger han.

NÄR MONA SAHLIN skriver att det snedvridna samägandet inom de stora kraftföretagen ska begränsas reagerar också alliansen. De menar att regeringen är skyldig även till den utvecklingen.

– Samägandet har ju staten arrangerat när de stängde Barsebäck. Då ersattes Sydkraft, numera Eon, med trettio procents ägande i Ringhals, säger Mats Odell.

– Stängandet av Barsebäck har lett till att korsägandet ökat. Det har försämrat konkurrensen och ökat kostnaderna för kunderna, säger Mikael Odenberg.

Men tillägger Karin Pilsäter, folkpartiets talesperson i ekonomiska frågor: ”Man borde sopa lite framför egen dörr. Statliga Vattenfall är en stor syndare. Vattenfall tar hem vinster på kundernas bekostnad. Och då gör de andra bolagen precis likadant.” Ursäkta mig, men hur är det tänkt att folk ska bli övertygade om förträffligheten med en friare marknad, om man samtidigt målar upp företag som omoraliska ”utsugare” av kunderna?

G2 Bulletin sources in the Pentagon and in foreign intelligence and defense establishments say North Korea was just doing what should be expected following the major powers effort to appease – or buy off – Iran.
