Dr Hurd säger som det är:
What’s wrong with so many of the French? They want the good life. They produce wonderful food, wine, cheese and other products enjoyed the world over. Many French want the results of the good life without the conditions that foster business and productivity. They want socialism, without having to call it socialism–and without the standard results of socialism: economic stagnation followed by decline.
When I look at the shouting, screaming protestors in France right now, I don’t feel inspired by idealistic advocates of freedom. I see a bunch of pissed off young people, egged on by their college professors in many cases, who want the benefits of freedom without any of the costs. No wonder they hate the Americans. The United States reminds them they could have a richer and even more comfortable society, if they were willing to work for it. This is not a reminder to which they take kindly.
