Charles Krauthammer ger i sin senaste kolumn en närmast perfekt beskrivning av de så kallade moderata muslimerna:

What passes for moderation in the Islamic community — ”I share your rage but don’t torch that embassy” — is nothing of the sort. It is simply a cynical way to endorse the goals of the mob without endorsing its means. It is fraudulent because, while pretending to uphold the principle of religious sensitivity, it is interested only in this instance of religious insensitivity.

Have any of these ”moderates” ever protested the grotesque caricatures of Christians and, most especially, Jews that are broadcast throughout the Middle East on a daily basis? The sermons on Palestinian TV that refer to Jews as the sons of pigs and monkeys? The Syrian prime-time TV series that shows rabbis slaughtering a gentile boy to ritually consume his blood? The 41-part (!) series on Egyptian TV based on that anti-Semitic czarist forgery (and inspiration of the Nazis), ”The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” showing the Jews to be engaged in a century-old conspiracy to control the world?

A true Muslim moderate is one who protests desecrations of all faiths. Those who don’t are not moderates but hypocrites, opportunists and agents for the rioters, merely using different means to advance the same goal: to impose upon the West, with its traditions of freedom of speech, a set of taboos that is exclusive to the Islamic faith. These are not defenders of religion but Muslim supremacists trying to force their dictates upon the liberal West.

Charles Johnson observerar också att förra året ville ingen företrädare för de stora ”moderata” organisationerna i USA dyka upp i en demonstration mot terrorism. Intressant i sammanhanget är att den muslimska organisationen som anordnade denna demonstration, Free Muslims Coalition, skapades för att de anser ”that religious violence and terrorism have not been fully rejected by the Muslim community in the post 9-11 era.” De skriver också:

The Free Muslims was created to eliminate broad base support for Islamic extremism and terrorism and to strengthen secular democratic institutions in the Middle East and the Muslim World by supporting Islamic reformation efforts.

The Free Muslims promotes a modern secular interpretation of Islam which is peace-loving, democracy-loving and compatible with other faiths and beliefs. The Free Muslims’ efforts are unique; it is the only mainstream American-Muslim organization willing to attack extremism and terrorism unambiguously. Unfortunately most other Muslim leaders believe that in terrorist organizations, the end justifies the means.

Och:

Other Americans have spoken up against terrorism, but never before has this message come with such clarity from Muslims or Arabs. Muslims are the only ones who can resolve the problem of terror in Islam, and sadly until the founding of this Free Muslims, they were the only group who had not definitively spoken up against the use of terror.

Detta är anmärkningsvärt på flera sätt, inte minst i sin ärlighet. Dessa muslimer är enligt mig sanna hjältar. De har gjort det jag anser att alla muslimer, åtminstone i väst, bör ställa upp på. Men det ser vi inte. Istället ser vi, än så länge, bara den sortens ”moderata” muslimer som beskrivs i Krauthammers kolumn, muslimer som bara tar avstånd från metoderna, inte ändamålet. Jag väntar fortfarande på att de danska muslimerna ska aktivt demonstrera för yttrandefriheten och explicit försvara Jyllands Postens rätt att publicera dessa bilder. Men var är de?
