Kanske för att irakierna ogillar att USA försöker tränar dem. I Salt Lake Tribune kunde man läsa:

According to an account of the report in The New York Times, ”only ‘a small number’ of Iraqi security forces are capable of fighting the insurgency without American assistance, while about one-third of the army is capable of ‘planning, executing and sustaining counterinsurgency operations’ with allied support.” In other words, the progress in getting Iraqi soldiers and police officers trained, equipped and capable of taking the fight to the enemy is painfully slow. That, in turn, means that the United States will not be able to begin to withdraw its 140,000 troops anytime soon.

Detta betyder att USA kommer i flera år framöver kommer att offra ännu fler av sina soldater. Och för vad? Tidningen fortsätter:

The snail’s pace at getting Iraqi units ready to fight on their own is testament to the great difficulty of building an army and police force from the ground up in the midst of a brutal war. No one said this was going to be easy. But it also suggests something else, something darker. American journalists report that Iraqis in the armed forces are resentful of the U.S. soldiers who are trying to train them. In a fight, the Iraqis cut and run. They are in the army or the police not because of patriotic fervor but because they need a paycheck. That is not true of all units. Some have performed very well. But in the Sunni triangle, the loyalty of government forces is questionable and their performance reflects that. (Min kursivering.)

Så USA ska stanna kvar, gå med på att utsätta ännu fler av sina soldater för den helt onödiga risken att slaktas i attacker, för vad? Så att OTACKSAMMA irakier, som ju hatar dem, kan ta del av avlönat arbete.

Tidningen avslutar med: ”This raises the question of whether the continued presence of U.S. forces is doing more to fan the flames of the insurgency and anti-American sentiment than it is to quell them. Iraqi soldiers and police committed to the fight can be trained to do the job. But if they view the Americans as the enemy, no amount of training will succeed.”

Det enda jag vill tillägga är att om irakierna betraktar USA som fienden, då bör USA inse att de inte har BESEGRAT irakierna (i varje fall inte de inom sunnitriangeln) och att de borde betrakta och BEHANDLA dem som fiender TILLS dess att de GER UPP villkorslöst. Det är vad som krävs för att vinna mot ”motståndsmännen” i Irak.
