#Valet2018: Ayn Rand om vänsterpartiets kampanj mot egendomsrätten

Jag vet naturligtvis inte vad Ayn Rand skulle ha sagt om vänsterpartiet—sannolikt Sveriges mest anti-liberala och därför mest livs- och människofientliga parti—och dess syn på den privata egendomsrätten. Men detta citat ger oss nog ändå en ganska bra hum:

The modern mystics of muscle [t ex marxistiska materalister] who offer you the fraudulent alternative of “human rights” versus “property rights,” as if one could exist without the other, are making a last, grotesque attempt to revive the doctrine of soul versus body. Only a ghost can exist without material property; only a slave can work with no right to the product of his effort. The doctrine that “human rights” are superior to “property rights” simply means that some human beings have the right to make property out of others; since the competent have nothing to gain from the incompetent, it means the right of the incompetent to own their betters and to use them as productive cattle. Whoever regards this as human and right, has no right to the title of “human.” — Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

Häromdagen inledde Aaron Smith och Onkar Ghate ARI Campus webinarie-serie med en väldigt matig diskussion om Ayn Rands Ford Hall Forum föreläsningar “Apollo and Dionysus” och “The Anti-Industrial Revolution”.

Jag ser redan fram emot nästa webinarie i vilken Ben Bayer och Onkar Ghate kommer att analysera och bryta ned Rands FHF föreläsning “Of Living Death”:

In this lecture on the 1968 papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (Of Human Life), Ayn Rand discusses the meaning of the Catholic Church’s admonition against the use of contraception and the view of sex that it implies. She contrasts this religious perspective on sex with the Objectivist view, drawing out the relationships between love, sex, self-esteem and happiness.

De kommande veckorna kommer ARI att organisera en hel serie av webinarier om Ayn Rands idéer.

Inledningsvis kommer ARI experterna Onkar Ghate, Ben Bayer och Aaron Smith att prata om Ayn Rands Ford Hall Forum-föreläsningar. Men senare är det tänkt att de ska hålla webinarier om objektivismen som sådan.

Här är en beskrivning av det första webinariet som alltså äger rum den 8 augusti:

In 1969, Ayn Rand delivered “Apollo and Dionysus” at Boston’s Ford Hall Forum. She contrasts two prominent events from that summer’s news: the Apollo 11 moon landing and the Woodstock music festival, which she thinks represent the conflict between reason and irrational emotion. She explores some of these same themes in 1970 when she delivered “The Anti-Industrial Revolution,” in which she analyzes the arguments and underlying motivation of the emerging “ecology” movement, the forerunner of today’s environmentalism, which she saw as motivated by an animus toward industrial civilization and technological progress.

In the first of a six-part, live webinar and Q&A, ARI experts will discuss highlights and major themes from these historic lectures, and the applicability of those themes to our world today.

En del av oss har våra egna objektivistiska studiecirklar, men det är inte alla som har det. Och även de av oss som har en studiecirkel, så är det nästan ingen som inkluderar experter som Onkar Ghate!

Dessa webinarier utgör därför en unik chans att studera objektivismen med ARIs främsta experter—och det är verkligen inget man får varje dag. Ett stort plus är att de har valt att organisera dessa webinarier på en tid som är ganska bekväm för oss européer, nämligen kl 10:00 Pacific.
